Cheerios On a String

There were one too many boxes of Cheerios lying around the house. So to use it up we made Cheerios necklaces! Now, the cereal is stale, so it wasn't for us to eat. We decided that later on we will put them outside for the birds to eat!

It's a simple enough activity that takes only as long as you would like it to. A longer string, of course, means more Cheerios, and a short one means less. The best part of the whole activity? It helps the kids focus on building their fine motor skills! Cheerios have little holes, so it takes concentration to get the string through without breaking the little thing in half.

So what will you need? Just some string and Cheerios! If your string likes to fray at the ends use a little bit of tape to keep it together. It also helps to keep it a bit stiffer, making it easier to get it through the hole.

Tie one end of the string with a knot, or two, big enough to keep the cereal from sliding off. I double knotted it, just to be sure, making a small loop at the same time. Now, let the kids have at it! V and her cousin each made one this morning and they turned out great!

There is so much concentration here in one picture!

Here is the final product!

I tied the "loading" end through the loop I mentioned previously. This was a bit easier than trying to tie to loose ends together.

Overall this made for a fun morning! I hope the birds enjoy their treat as much as we enjoyed making them! :)
